Stephen King

Stephen King is the undisputed master of modern horror. Born in Portland, Maine in 1947, King has published over 60 novels and 200 short stories, selling more than 350 million copies worldwide. His 1977 novel The Shining — born from a stay at the Stanley Hotel in Colorado — remains one of the most influential horror novels ever written. King's gift lies in grounding the supernatural in the deeply ordinary, making the impossible feel inevitable and close. His work spans horror, fantasy, science fiction, and literary fiction, but it is his horror that defined a genre for generations of readers.
